Today, the Railway Administration ceremoniously opened the renovated departure hall in Beroun, completing almost four years of repairs to the complex of three interconnected buildings of the Beroun railway station. The station consists of a departure hall, an administrative building and operational premises. All of them underwent reconstruction from the summer of 2020, according to the original plans, it should have been completed in 24 months.
The work in Beroun continued the previous modernization of the tracks, platforms and underpass. The passenger spaces and the facilities of the existing operations have been modernized. The work included a new facade including insulation, replacement of windows and doors, modification of the surfaces of floors, walls and ceilings as well as a general repair of the roof. A new cooling and air exchange system was installed throughout the building complex.
According to the Railway Administration, the aim of the modernization was to “revive the entire facility and increase travel comfort”. “Major layout changes have taken place in the departure hall, thanks to which more business units have been added here. The result of the reconstruction is also the expansion of the information and camera system,” stated the general director of SŽ Jiří Svoboda. The work progressed in stages, part of the check-in hall was opened to passengers after reconstruction in the fall of 2022.
The total costs of the construction amount to 391 million crowns (at the start of construction, SŽ stated 288 million crowns). The contractor was BAK stavební společnost.
