/PHOTO, VIDEO/ Construction equipment is already working on the planned section of the Prague – Karlovy Vary highway between the Jeseník junction and Lubenz in the south of the Ústí Region. On the longest and probably the most expensive section of the D6, topsoil excavation for rescue archaeological research has begun, bulldozers and other machines are working, for example, at the former Maják snack bar near Ležek or at the Malměřice turnoff.

The actual construction of the twelve-kilometer section should start in the spring of this year, the Directorate of Roads and Highways (ŘSD) is finalizing the selection procedure for the contractor, which started a year ago. ŘSD received six offers, the lowest with a price of less than three and a half billion crowns was submitted by the association of companies Eurovia, Berger Bohemia and Stavby mostů.

“The offers are in the price range from 3.477 to 4.121 billion crowns without VAT. The evaluation committee is now examining the references and price offers of individual participants in the selection procedure,” informed the ŘSD. It has a valid building permit for the construction, and the start of the construction will be preceded by extensive rescue archaeological research. The last of the three sections of the D6 in Podbořansk should start serving drivers at the end of 2026.

The aforementioned association of companies Eurovia, Berger Bohemia and Stavby mostů is now building a 9.2-kilometer-long section near Hořesedel in Central Bohemia for 1.9 billion kroner and a connecting 5.2-kilometer section of the highway near Hořoviček for two billion.

At 12 kilometers, the section in the south of the Ústí Region will be the longest to be built between Prague and Karlovy Vary. There are a total of 170 construction objects, including 16 bridges and two noise barriers. One of the bridges will span the future Kryra dam. An interchange will be built north of Černčice, from which a new road will lead to Kryr in the future in connection with the planned waterworks.

Originally, the section was supposed to be shorter, due to the acceleration of the construction of the Lubence bypass between 2018 and 2021, four kilometers of the D6 east of the village were dropped from the preparation and will only be built now.

The construction of the highway between Prague and Karlovy Vary is proceeding at a brisk pace. Currently, the D6 from Prague ends at Krušovice, the connecting section at Krupá is planned to be opened by the ŘSD this August. The aforementioned Hořesedel and Hořoviček bypasses are under construction, including the Jesenice junction with the I/27 Žatec – Plzeň road, both of which are expected to be completed in 2025. In one year, the D6 from Prague will be completed to the Jesenice junction, after the completion of the section to Lubnec, the complete four-lane will extend up to the borders of the Ústí and Karlovy Vary regions. A bypass and a section to Bošov with a total length of 10 kilometers are in operation near Lubence.

The ŘSD wants to build four sections of the highway in Karlovy Vary between 2025 and 2028. The eight-kilometer section Bošov – Knínice will probably be built first. In the past few days, the Transport and Energy Building Authority started the construction process, property law preparation is underway, and the ŘSD is preparing to start the tender process for the construction contractor. It is planned to start next year.
