People pay higher property taxes, but cities get nothing out of it

--

Chomutovskogo – The annual unpleasant obligation of owners of not only apartments, houses and garages occurs these days. Therefore, people’s mailboxes and mailboxes are starting to fill up with calls to pay real estate tax. The payment deadline is the last day of May. People will pay more this year.

This year it will cost property owners more than last year, as members of the government increased the tax by an average of eighty percent as part of the so-called consolidation package.

Normally, real estate tax is one of the few taxes that can be influenced by self-government, i.e. municipalities. By reducing or increasing the coefficient, they can affect the amount of tax, which is then collected by the tax office.

In this case, however, it does not apply. The state decided on the increase. As the head of the economic department of the municipality, Jan Mareš, points out, the city has nothing to do with the increase in the amount. “The increase in real estate tax is one of the measures of the current government’s consolidation package, we have not changed the tax in any way,” he explained.

The income from the tax will go to the budgets of the cities, but they will not make any money from it. The state, on the other hand, will deduct from them a share of the shared taxes, which it redistributes every year. “When we compare the amounts, it turns out to our disadvantage,” states the city’s economist.
