The incident happened earlier in the week and photos of climbers standing in a row on plates attached to the rock went viral on Chinese social media. The CNN server writes about it. “This is horrible. Someone who is afraid of heights like me could have been sweating profusely,” the news website quoted one commenter as saying. “Even if they offered me money, I’m not going to do it,” wrote another.

Wenzhou Tingcheng Sports Development Co., which manages the via ferrata on the mountain, is said to have underestimated the number of people who wanted to climb the rock. “Due to bad judgment about how many climbers would arrive, as well as the absence of a reservation system, clients got stuck on the secured route and were stuck there,” commented the company.

She added that in the future she is going to introduce a system that will regulate “traffic” on the via ferrata so that nothing like this happens again. Apparently, the situation was resolved this time and none of the climbers were harmed. The photos still make me dizzy.

Yentang Mountain is located about 410 kilometers south of Shanghai. The first week of May is a Labor Day holiday in China, which has contributed to a higher turnover of tourists in the area.
