At that time, a woman (born in 1971) was crossing a pedestrian crossing with a tram belt on Výškovická Street near the Kino Luna tram stop at the exact time when a tram was passing by. She caught the woman and carried her with her for a few seconds. The woman suffered serious injuries.

“All elements of the IZS intervened on the spot, the police officers had to coordinate the traffic,” explained police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková. Tram traffic was even stopped in both directions for the necessary time.

Medical aid crews went to help the poor woman. After the collision, she was wedged under the tram car and had to be extricated. Professional firefighters from the Ostrava-Zábřeh station took care of that.

“The woman somehow got between the tram and the boarding island, both of her legs were under the tram, so the firemen used high-pressure lifting bags to lift the tram and pull the woman out. Subsequently, she was handed over to the care of paramedics. The rescue of the woman took only ten minutes thanks to the excellent teamwork and precise work of the firefighters,” pointed out Lukáš Popp, spokesman for the HZS MS region.

The attending doctor then discovered that the woman had very serious injuries to both lower limbs. “The EMS crews started inhalation oxygen administration, intravenous administration of drugs, treated external injuries and fixed the patient in a vacuum mattress. The injured woman was then transported to the Ostrava University Hospital in a serious condition,” Lukáš Humpl added for the paramedics.

After the end of the rescue work, the police took over the place and started an investigation into the cause of the accident. After completing the investigation, firefighters cleaned up the scene of the accident.
