Prague 1 commemorated the victims of the Soviet army, the mayor symbolically broke rose flowers

On the eve of the main celebrations of the liberation of Czechoslovakia, which annually commemorate the bravery and sacrifices of soldiers and civilians in 1945, Prague 1 paid tribute to those who gave their lives for the freedom of our country. Karolína Šnejdarová, the spokeswoman for the first city district, informed about it.

The mayor of Prague 1, Terezie Radoměřská (TOP 09), laid flowers at the Red Army monument at Prague Castle on Tuesday, May 7. “On the eve of Liberation Day, I remembered in prayer the dead soldiers of the Soviet Army who laid down their lives for peace in a country that was foreign to them,” she said.

She broke the flowers of the red roses. “The flowers of their sacrificial blood are trampled today by the soldiers of the same army that invaded a neighboring peaceful country and sows death and pain. Russian aggression in Ukraine is trampling on their memory. That’s why I symbolically broke the flowers placed on their monument,” she explained.

According to her, the breaking of the flowers symbolizes the condemnation of the current conflict and emphasizes that the values ​​of freedom and peace for which our forefathers fought must still be maintained and protected.

According to Radoměřská, the Red Army monument at Prague Castle, declared a cultural monument during the former communist regime, is an important testimony of the times and a reminder of historical events that shaped our present.

“The Prague 1 district emphasizes the need to preserve the memory of those who fought for freedom, and at the same time expresses solidarity with those who today fight for their rights and sovereignty,” said Šnejdarová.
