Also today, the regional transport organizer, the company ROPID, reports about thirteen problematic lines on which dozens of connections have to be cancelled. Yesterday there were 16 of them. And just like yesterday, this mainly concerns traffic on the eastern outskirts of Prague, then for example the area of Brandýs nad Labem.

Arriva and ČSAD Central Bohemia buses are facing problems. They solve both situations, they also deployed drivers from reserves from other parts of the Czech Republic. Workers can’t cover shifts now, mainly because of sickness, but also because of vacations that people still take at the end of the summer.

“We are missing five drivers due to higher sickness, but the situation should stabilize within a few days. Those who are sick are to return, and at the same time new drivers have started. But they have to learn the routes and also the check-in of passengers,” explains Arriva spokesperson Jan Holub.

This is a longer-term problem

According to Holub, the company has been dealing with a shortage of drivers and high levels of sickness since the coronavirus pandemic. Unscheduled connections are more noticeable during the transition from holiday service to regular service. ČSAD Central Bohemia has a similar situation, the director Štěpán Ševčík told Czech Radio that there is also a lack of driver units there. The problem is that everyone got sick at once and overnight.

The ROPID company, which organizes the transport, is not yet planning a major adjustment to the operation. “It should improve significantly after Sunday. We would not like to approach any restrictions on timetables, but in the event that the problem persists, it will certainly be better if the interval is extended on some lines, rather than canceling connections,” said spokesman Filip Drápal.

Passengers can find information about restrictions on the website of Prague Integrated Transport.
