“I know that the level of the competition is very decent and there are several teams that can think about the title,” the 27-year-old player revealed his knowledge about the Czech Extraliga.
James, what do you expect from the Czech top flight?
Extraliga should be an opportunity for me to win the title. I am aware that we have a strong squad and if we show what we are capable of then it is a realistic goal.
What is your awareness of the club you are joining? And even about Czech volleyball?
I heard a little bit from Trent O’Dea who played here. My friends Max Staples and Luke Smith also told me a lot about the league. Already in previous seasons, I followed their results in the Czech Extraliga. I know the level of competition is very good and there are several teams who can think about the title.

The head coach of Karlovarsk is Jiří Novák, who as a player led the Paris Volley team to the Champions League title. Did you know that?
I didn’t know much about him before (smile), but I looked everything up carefully. He has had a really successful playing career and is now continuing it as a coach. I look forward to him passing on his experience to me.
How do you feel at the new club after a few days of preparation?
I see that there is a welcoming environment, they try to help me with everything in the club. I was surprised by how beautiful a city Karlovy Vary is. It looks like a nice place to live.
The upcoming season has several highlights for Karlovy Vary again. What are your personal ambitions?
My goal is to do my best to help the team to another title. I am also very much looking forward to the Champions League, to the matches with the best teams in Europe.
