Policemen in Teplice chased a drunk digger driver through the night streets

--

Officers noticed something was wrong shortly after midnight on the city’s CCTV footage.

“In Mariánské náměstí Street, they saw a large wheel loader that drove in the opposite direction and continued towards Koněvova Street. That’s why we immediately sent a patrol to the spot,” said Jiří Petrák, director of the Krupka Municipal Police.

According to him, a scene like from an action movie followed. Several patrols tried to stop the loader in the streets of the city. When the driver realized that he was being chased by the police, he changed his mind about the original route from the city, turned around at the intersection and continued driving back to Krupka.

“I didn’t drink anything,” muttered the van driver in Pilsen. He breathed over 4 per thousand

“However, at half past one in the morning, another patrol blocked his way in 1. May street, and the driver had no choice but to stop,” Petrák added.

The driver was then asked to turn off the engine and get out of the excavator. “However, he didn’t really want to go out and almost fell while getting out of the cabin. When the officers came closer to him, they smelled alcohol on his breath,” Petrák described.

Night raid by police officers against an excavator in Krupka

The officers allegedly used coercive measures and handcuffs against the man out of concern for his safety and also because of a possible escape.

The license plate was missing from the loader and the man also had a suspended driver’s license.

The police officers then measured 2.08 per mille of alcohol in his breath with an indicative breath test. They therefore took over the case on suspicion of committing the crime of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance.
