The D2 highway was closed from the Čuňovo–Rajka border crossing to Hungary to the intersection with the D4 highway near the village of Jarovce. “Police officers documented two incidents at the scene. No one was injured,” police said. At the same time, she asked drivers to use alternative routes instead of the highway and bypass the mentioned section.

Strong winds also tore down billboards and uprooted trees. At Bratislava’s Lamač railway station, the wind blew down power lines.

Falling trees interrupted traffic in the Lovinobaňa–Cinobaňa, Makov–Bumbálka and Nováky–Vestenice sections. Strong winds are also in the vicinity of Komárno, Hurbanov, Sence, Holíč, Bytče and Žilina. The ferry at Vojka on the Danube does not work either.

It was even worse in Hungary

Drivers in neighboring Hungary experienced an even worse situation. Dust blown by strong winds caused a mass accident on the M1 motorway near the border with Austria.

Police.hu reported that 37 cars and five trucks collided due to poor visibility.

“36 people were injured, 13 of them seriously and one person’s life is in danger,” Hungarian police said.
