Several units of the fire department intervened on Wenceslas Square, according to information, the block of the main branch of the Czech Post on Jindřišská street is on fire. “The focus of the fire is localized. We are extinguishing other focuses of the fire, which did not spread beyond the affected part of the roof,” said firefighters at X.

Thick smoke could be seen from afar. According to initial information, the fire is on construction site, said Kateřina Suchánská, spokeswoman for the Prague fire department. “The fire is not spreading any further. It is a reinforced concrete roof, where construction work was taking place. All persons have been evacuated from the building, the firemen said. “We are using height equipment, the cardboard on the roof of the house is on fire,” the firemen wrote earlier on X.

Smoke is rising from the area behind the building on the corner of Wenceslas Square and Jindřišská Street, a ČTK reporter found out on the spot. “This is a cardboard fire on a new building with an area of ​​ten by 15 meters, at the moment it is not possible to set up a ladder, the intervention is carried out inside the building using breathing techniques,” the firemen said before 12:30.

Jindřišská street is closed to traffic, not even trams will pass. The operation of six tram lines is limited, the transport company is diverting trams according to its website.
