Pavel, like the opposition, believes that it is necessary to look at the issue of pension reform more comprehensively. The Labor Ministry’s proposal covers part of it, he thinks. After Thursday’s premier meeting in this format, the president said that he does not consider it just a crossed-out item on the agenda, but sees a big shift in the will to reach a common position.

Jurečka said that he is open to a debate on the mechanism by which the retirement age limit would be determined. “Whether it is to be a long-term mechanism that will no longer have any possibility of revision by future governments is up for debate,” he noted. He appreciated that the consensus was that pension reform is necessary.

According to Jurečka, with regard to earlier retirement for demanding jobs, the Ministry of Labor together with the Ministry of Health tried to approach the matter based on data from the last ten years. “It’s a look at individual specific positions, not general professions,” he stated.

The creation of a second, motivational pension pillar linked to investments is absolutely essential for the ANO movement, said its first vice-chairman Havlíček. According to him, it is offered to combine it with investments in nuclear energy, transport infrastructure or housing. For citizens, such a pillar would be a guarantee that they will not lose their money, at the same time there would be a reasonable effect of the appreciation of savings and the state would gain resources for building infrastructure, he believes. According to Jurečka, the second pillar is up for debate, there is room to discuss it during this election period.

According to club head Schillerová, the YES movement needs material that is approved by the government regularly in five-year intervals so that it can discuss the retirement age based on numbers. “We talked about how to set it up. Whether to set a ceiling, which would be more of a path for us, whether to maintain the five-year interval, or leave the automatic system there, which is proposed by the Minister of Labour,” she said.

Jurečka should also present his idea of the schedule of the legislative process at the next meeting. Pavel expects that the meeting will be on the same layout as today. Regarding the possible invitation of representatives of the second opposition movement SPD, the president said that he would not disqualify anyone, but it depends on the activity and initiative with which the SPD approaches the matter.

The government coalition is counting on raising the retirement age above 65 in line with life extension, with a lower calculation of new pensions, with the introduction of a minimum pension in the amount of 20 percent of the average wage or with an earlier pension for work in a risky environment. The opposition previously criticized and rejected part of the plans and the form of the measures, mainly increasing the age or a lower new pension.
