On Tuesday, April 2, at 11:30 a.m., the Warner TV station will start broadcasting for the Czech Republic. The very first show will be the pilot episode of the series Smallville, which tells the story of Superman growing up in Kansas. The series will be with Czech dubbing, just like all other programs of this station.
Don’t expect the current hits of world TV production. Smallville is more than twenty years old series. Warner TV’s schedule is deliberately constructed in such a way that there is no news in it. The owner of the station, the American company Warner Bros. Discovery, wants to mine its rich archive. “Warner TV is a channel that presents blockbuster movies and award-winning, globally recognized series,” described the offer, sales director for the Czech market, Václav Paleček.
With the most famous series of the type Sex in the city does not currently count on Warner TV broadcasts. Fans can find them on the paid streaming app Max. The rights to each show are evaluated separately by Warners. Sometimes it pays for them to transfer the broadcast rights to another Czech station, sometimes they put it on Warner TV and other times they temporarily put it in the application. “We’ve learned over the last four or five years that not everything we put on a streaming platform has to stay there forever,” Warners Regional Director Jamie Cooke noted.
Nor is there a unified strategy for how long it will take for movies that are in theaters now to appear on free-to-air Warner TV, for example. “We have partners here that we sell content licenses to, so we’re going to try to find some balance between what we want to deliver to partners and how best to reach our target audience on that channel,” added Cooke.
TV stations have to make money from advertising. Warner TV broadcasts will therefore have commercial blocks. After a year of broadcasting, she would like to achieve a viewership share of roughly one percent. Then they evaluate what works and what to change.
Warner Bros. Group Until now, Discovery only operated paid Eurosport-type channels in our country. By entering free broadcasting, he wants to gain more viewers and present his offer to them. Although the Czech license for Warner TV does not exclude the inclusion of sports programs, they are not included now. “I didn’t even know we had that option,” regional director Jamie Cooke admitted. “But the way we operate as a company is to keep our options open,” he added.
Program diagram
The program strategy of Czech Warner TV is similar to that in other markets. During the day, he repeats older series, usually several episodes in a row. She reserved prime evening air time for films.
The first film on Tuesday, April 2 will be 2001: A Space Odyssey, Stanley Kubrick’s famous film from 1968. Studio Warner Bros. has also become famous for its animated series for children, but Czech Warner TV will not broadcast such content. Its target group is younger adult viewers.
