Saturday’s aerial attack by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure targeted gas facilities that are important for supplies to the European Union. According to Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this.

According to an earlier statement by Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, Russia attacked energy targets in Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions. Ukrainian forces shot down 21 of 34 Russian missiles, according to Kyiv.

Ukraine’s Naftohaz said in a statement this morning that no one was injured in Saturday’s attack on its gas facilities and that the attack “will not affect the provision of services to Ukrainian consumers or the group’s customers.”

In recent weeks, Russia has intensified air attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Thermal power plants and the transmission system suffered extensive damage.

In the past, the targets of attacks were also underground gas reservoirs, which are located several hundreds of meters deep in western Ukraine. Ukraine has more storage capacity than any other country west of Russia and is actively trying to get European traders to store their supplies there.
