“I would never approve of that!” Pre-election jam. The Austrian sunk the ODS campaign

--

In a month, we will co-decide on the new form of the European Parliament. The pre-election campaign is already intensifying.

Deputy Prime Minister Vít Rakušan, however, denies that the elections to the European Parliament can become a referendum on the government, as promised by the opposition. “This will not be a referendum on the government, of course someone is trying to do that, they are putting a lot of fear and anxiety into it. The campaign will certainly be tough,” said the Minister of the Interior.

The Together group parodied the slogan of the ANO movement “Czech Republic, everything for you” to “Russia, everything for you”, which the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Karel Havlíček (ANO) rejected: “An attack at a time when there is a war and when we condemned Russia as an aggressor and supported a whole range of things connected with Ukraine is something that has historically not been here to such an extent,” said the oppositionist.

According to him, this shows that at least in this respect Spolu is empty: “Splo has no personalities, themes and is not authentic, they know Antibabish, they know how to pull the Russian card and they think that will be enough for them. I am convinced that it will not be enough for them and the voters will count it up,” continued Karel Havlíček.

“This government has decided to take a Bolshevik turn with each of its opponents, by showing them that they are pro-Russian cockroaches,” Havlíček pointed out, that the ANO movement will not be fooled and will not follow a similar path of dishonor.

He was reacting to images of billboards circulating on social networks, which are supposed to be a parody of the election slogans of the ANO movement. They are largely shared by supporters of the Together coalition. On them are the head of the movement Andrej Babiš and the number one candidate of the ANO movement in the European elections, Klára Dostálová, they have Russian flags painted on their faces instead of Czech ones and the slogan “Russia, for you all” accompanies them, instead of the original slogan “Czech Republic, for you all”.

The head of the STAN movement said that they would not engage in such a billboard campaign. “It is a competitive entity, even though we sit with it in the government, I have nothing to approve or disapprove. We wouldn’t do that. In general, I think it’s not a good idea to bring war into the campaign. I would not have approved such a visual for the STAN movement,” the Austrian declared, adding that it was started by Andrej Babiš, who brought the topic of war into the presidential campaign.

He then pointed out that the ANO movement also used harsh methods in its campaigns. “It sounds slightly comical to me that the YES movement always behaves nicely and honestly in the campaign. ANO has been using these methods for a long time, they weigh in and attack in the campaign, and then they just whine when someone does something similar. Whining, whining from the ANO party seems a bit funny to me,” commented Vít Rakušan.

“It’s completely different than when you compare someone to a war aggressor, when he clearly expressed his opposition to it,” Havlíček defended the previous campaigns of the ANO movement. “The fact that we have a different view of the end of the war does not mean that we are pro-Russian,” he pointed out.

The first vice-chairman of ANO Havlíček recalled that especially ODS politicians went to Russia “as if to a samoška”. “In Russia, all prime ministers were for ODS. Mrs. Němcová, she was stuffing herself with caviar like the woman behind the counter. And everyone was laughing at that. We have not dealt with any Russian president or prime minister, I have never met with any Russian minister. We were the ones who expelled dozens of Russian diplomats,” ex-minister Havlíček recalled.

The Austrian appreciated that the president of the republic, Petr Pavel, also joined the sharp campaign, who condemned Andrej Babiš’s words as inciting sentiments against Ukraine. At the same time, the President criticized the Spolu chalice anti-campaign and called it unfair. “It is good that there is a non-party president that we have been calling for. It is good that we have a president who is trying to calm the atmosphere in society,” the Austrian vice-prime minister pointed out.
