The occurrence of whooping cough has already surpassed the 60-year record and is approaching the times when the vaccine against whooping cough had not yet been invented.
Most of the sick are still among high school students. 161 infants under one year have already been infected. More than half of them had to be hospitalized, especially children up to three months after birth. However, the State Institute of Health warns that it is mostly a preventive measure.
The smallest children do not have sufficient protection against infection and are at risk of serious health complications. Doctors therefore recommend revaccination against whooping cough to pregnant women. It is also suitable for the elderly and people with weakened immunity.

There are a minimum of foreigners among the infected. According to SZÚ data, only 18 Ukrainian refugees are among the thousands infected. In twenty-five cases, Czechs brought the disease with them from a holiday or business stay abroad.
