At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs there already informed in March that the head of state approved Zalužný’s candidacy for the post of Ukrainian ambassador to Britain. A month later, Ukrainian media reported that London had accepted his appointment.

However, Zelenskyi’s decree states that Zaluzhnyi was dismissed from the army for “health reasons” and continues to have the right to wear a military uniform. The Ukrainian media note that the military commission found Zalužný unfit for military service, although he passed this vetting last winter without any problems.

Zaluzhny was then put at the so-called “disposal” of the Ministry of Defense, but was not offered any position within the army commensurate with his experience and qualifications. Already in March, the Ukrainská pravda website wrote that under such conditions, Zaluzhny decided to leave the ranks of the army himself.

In February, Zelenskyy appointed Colonel General Oleksandr Syrsky, who had been commander of the Ukrainian ground forces since August 2019, as the new commander-in-chief of the armed forces of Ukraine. At the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, he commanded the defense of Kyiv, and in September 2022, the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the Kharkiv region.
