Peskov: We will take an attack on the territory annexed by the referendum as an attack on Russia

“Undoubtedly. In this regard, everything is clear. If there is an accession to Russia, our constitution will immediately come into force in relation to these territories,” Peskov said, according to TASS.

The Kremlin spokesman thus confirmed what the Russians had so far only hinted at. Namely, that referendums are a way to declare Ukrainian territory as one’s own and then deter the Ukrainian army and the West, which supports it in the fight against the occupiers, with the threat of much tougher military strikes.

A pseudo-referendum on joining Russia has begun in the occupied parts of Ukraine

Pro-Russian separatist republics in eastern and southern Ukraine are holding referendums on joining the Russian Federation from Friday 23 September to Tuesday 27 September.

The pro-Russian self-governments of these self-proclaimed state entities in Donbas in the east and Kherson and Zaporozhye regions in the south of the country are in a hurry as the Ukrainian military has launched several successful counterattacks in recent weeks.

The Ukrainians declare that their goal is to free the entire Ukrainian territory from the occupiers, including Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014 after a similar pseudo-referendum.

In addition to supporting referendums in separatist and occupied regions, Russia responded to Ukraine’s progress with a partial mobilization, which is supposed to involve up to 300,000 men.

No napkins. Russian mobilization is often total and ruthless
