The opening day of the 18-team championship in Espoo and Vantaa ended with the favorites winning. The most anticipated duel between Canada and Sweden showed a lot to the coaches of the Czech team, which these elite rivals are waiting for this weekend.

A modest shooting account of the Finns

Finnish fans were looking forward to the start of the home team, over four thousand saw the duel against Latvia. They did not watch any exciting show, but Suomi calmly controlled the development and one goal in each period was enough for them.

Hemming, Ruohonen and Suoniemi gradually gained ground. The northerners outshot their sok 34:15, but the goalkeeper Rimpinen did not keep a clean sheet in the end. In the end, the son of the well-known father Aatos Koivu received a bigger penalty for driving into the wall, and Bruno Osmanis used a long power play to reduce the score to 1:3.

A hit with the great McKenna

The Czech national team will play Canada on Friday and Sweden on Sunday. Their mutual battle thus meant excellent study material for David Čermák’s staff. And the match between two hot contenders for a medal was really worth it. He brought beautiful hockey events, he also brought emotions and enormous hardness.

From the point of view of the development of the score, however, he brought the main thing already in the first third. The Maple Leafs went to the cabins with a luxurious 4:1 lead! Although Alexander Zetterberg brought the Swedes back into the game with two goals, Schaefer struck immediately after the remaining advantage and the Canadians immediately defended a long weakening after a foul by McQueen’s knee. The super talent Gavin McKenna, who showed himself to the scouts at the beginning of the championship, also contributed to the 6:3 victory with two goals.
