Audience league record! Over six thousand people came to Eden for the women’s derby

--

The players of Slavia beat the Spartans 4:1 thanks to goals from Denisa Veselá, Martina Šurnovská and two hits from Tereza Szewieczková. Captain Petra Bertholdová scored for Sparta. Experienced Lucie Martínková did not convert the penalty in the 4th minute.

At the head of the league, the stitched girls have a ten-point lead four games before the end of the competition. And next Sunday in Slovakia, they can secure the championship title, the third in a row.

“For women’s football, 6,216 spectators is a great number and certainly a great reward for the girls. They are the ones who, with their long-term performances, have earned the fact that fans come to support them in large numbers not only in Měcholup, but also for big matches in Eden. Overall, the day went well. Beautiful weather, a rich accompanying program led by a packed fan zone,” Jakub Splavec, Slavia’s strategic director, told iDNES.cz.

“I believe that the pre-match campaign also helped the visit. Again, thanks to our girls, who took it as their own and did their best for the best possible performance on and off the field. In addition to the unequivocal result and the record number of viewers, we are also pleased that together with the fans, the Slavie Foundation and other partners, we contributed 115,000 for the sick Jáchym.”

However, over six thousand spectators is not the highest attendance for women’s football in Eden. In 2019, 6,882 spectators came to the Champions League quarter-final between Slavia and Bayern (1:1).

The audience record was recently also set at the home match of the A-team of the women’s national team. Last October, 7,488 people watched the 2:2 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina in Hradec Králové.

The absolute largest number of spectators arrived in the Czech Republic for women’s football in 2017. The opening match of the Under-17 European Championship between the Czech Republic and France was watched by 10,219 fans in Pilsen.

Not only in Eden, on the last Saturday in April, an important milestone in women’s soccer was overcome. The second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Barcelona (first leg 0:1) will be played from 18:30 at the Stamford Bridge stadium, which will be sold out for women’s football for the first time, with over 40,000 fans arriving.

The world record for women’s soccer attendance is held by Barcelona. In April 2022, 91,648 spectators came to the Camp Nou stadium for the opening semi-final of the Champions League between Barcelona and Wolfsburg (5:1).
