According to the Japanese automaker, the development of its engine, which will be used by Aston Martin from 2026, is going according to plan.

In 2026, F1 will enter an era of new power unit (PJ) rules. The future generation of engines in the queen of motorsport will be specific mainly because 50 percent of the PJ’s power will be generated by the “electronic component”.

One of the manufacturers preparing to switch to new engines is Honda, which will be a supplier to the Aston Martin team from the 2026 season.

According to the president of Honda’s racing division (HRC), the development of the new PJ is progressing without major problems so far.

“So far everything is going according to plan. Of course, we cannot go into full details, but everything corresponds to our own expectations,” said HRC president Koji Watanabe, as quoted by Autosport.

“Initially we are focusing on the electrical side of the engine, so now we are mainly focusing on the electrical part of the engine and the battery. This work is completely in line with our own goals. At the same time, of course, we are developing an internal combustion engine, but at this stage it is not yet a V6 engine, but a single cylinder,” explained Honda’s head of motorsport.
