Semi-final of the MOL Cup with Zlín, the end of the regular season with Teplice and the start of the extra season against Mladá Boleslav on Sunday. Pilsen won all of these matches 3-0 and scored seven of the nine goals after quick action from the right side.
A quick ball to the running Pavel Šulec, who sends the ball into the goal to the onrushing teammates. Or he will combine, for example, with Cadu and Tomáš Chorý takes the finish on his shoulders at the front post.
The role of Šulce is key. “He’s excellent in his runs, we had tactics ready for the spaces from where he passed,” says coach Miroslav Koubek. For the first shot in the Boleslav net, Šulc prepared the ball for Cadu. “The combination we train. Pavel gave me a pass in an excellent area and I was in the right place,” describes the Brazilian full-back.
As mentioned, according to this template, Plzeň scores in the last duels as if through a photocopier. Against Teplice three times, as well now on Sunday. At the same time, Mladá Boleslav logically knew very well about this weapon. But she scored from it in the 10th and 12th minutes.
“The situation is even more regrettable, incomprehensible. From the field, I perceived everything in the way that they ran away from us with an attack from deep in the field and we did not catch the movement. Then Pilsen was a little lucky, the balls flew right around our feet. We made mistakes and the opponent punished us,” says experienced stopper Marek Suchý.
And what about coach David Holoubek? He says he has to watch everything in detail on the video. But he often got very angry behind the sideline. It was immediately clear to him that his left side was not working, so he withdrew full back Jakub Fulnek and winger Solomon John in the first half.
“We were preparing for it and knew how Pilsen played. It’s her DNA, but we reacted badly. Such a quality opponent will then punish mistakes. Pilsen’s efficiency is monstrous, I have to take my hat off,” Holoubek regretted.
