Beaudin continues the extralization: from Sparta he goes to Comet | Hokej.cz

Canadian fullback Nicolas Beaudin, despite an unsuccessful engagement in Prague’s Sparta, will remain in Tipsport extraleague, moving to Brno’s rival. Details of the length of the contract were not disclosed.

“He is a young, versatile and creative defender who can strengthen the defense but also support the attack. We are counting on him in the power play,” says its owner Libor Zábranský on the Komety website.

They had high expectations from Beaudin even at Sparta, but…

His first season in the Czech Republic was far from ideal, as he spent most of the playoffs in the stands. In total, after his arrival in January, he played in only twelve games for Prague, receiving three assists. “Nick is one of the best players on the puck, but due to our concept of the game, he didn’t get that many opportunities in the playoffs…” explained sports director Tomáš Divíšek.

It has enormous potential. In 2018, he was drafted in the first round (27th overall) by Chicago and subsequently made 22 NHL starts for the Blackhawks. The highlight of his career so far is the start at the 2021 World Championships, where he won the gold medal with Canada.

Beaudin is supposed to replace the contribution of Daniel Gazda in Komet, Radek Kučerík also left the club. On the contrary, Tomáš Bartejs and Michal Gulaš are new (old) acquisitions to the Brno defense. The goal was strengthened by the talented Michal Postava, and Brno armed themselves with Robert Říčka, Jakub Konečný, Tomáš Rachůnk and Hynek Zohorna.
