The fight for the victory started with a bold attack about four kilometers before the finish of Filippo Ganna. The local driver built up to a six-second lead, but the peloton eventually caught up to him in the streets of Andorra and it was time for the sprinters.
The finish was best for Milan, who won ahead of Kaden Groves from Australia and Phil Bauhaus from Germany. The 23-year-old Italian, who dominated the points competition at the Giro last year, claimed his second stage victory on the “Corsa Rosa”.
After the 190 km stage from Acqui Terme to Andorra, both Černý and Hirt reached the finish line in the same time as the winner.
Two-time Tour de France champion Pogačar leads the overall standings, 46 seconds ahead of Great Britain’s Geraint Thomas. Eighth Hirt is behind the Slovenian favorite by one minute and 13 seconds. Black is in 118th position.
