He took the stage twice and received the applause of the packed hall. In addition to the award for the most productive player, Liberec’s leader Tomáš Filippi also took home the main trophy. “The boys choose it among themselves, that’s why I’m very happy. I’m happy,” said the winner of the Tipsport extraliga Hockey player of the season poll.

Do you have formal events in love?
I don’t know, I’ve never been here before in my life. (smiles) But it was good, we will still enjoy the evening.

Have you already heard the last year in your head?
From a team point of view… I’m not really a fan of patting ourselves on the back for going out in the quarter-finals. Although this is justified by the fact that we had a young team. For me personally and I think for a lot of guys, it’s still not enough. Of course we would like more. On a personal note, I’m happy with my stats.

Can you tell me what got you started?
I try to do things the same way all the time. I’m not the type that if something doesn’t work out, I’m going to ditch everything right away. I believe in what I do. I was getting a lot of space on the ice, I felt confidence from the coach. Then everyone plays better.

How does the experienced player feel about the young White Tigers cabin?
Young too. (smiles) I feel good… I know that our organization decided to go down this path some time ago. I think it’s bearing fruit, just look at Rychlas (Jakub Rychlovský, editor’s note), as he shot this year. Next year it could be someone else. I’m just for them to play.

Does the role of mentor fulfill you? Will the beaks come to you for advice?
If I talk about our attack with Rychlas and Martin Faško-Rudáš, we dealt with hockey a lot. It wasn’t like I was the only one saying what was going to be done. Everyone said their point of view, then we somehow agreed. All three of us see hockey the same way. But I enjoy it when someone comes to me and wants to give advice or show something. I have already experienced something in hockey, I will be happy to help.

You will very likely lose Rychlovský’s partner from the new season, the lure of the NHL is strong…
Well, it’s going to be hard. Of course I wish him the best, but it would be better for us if he stayed. After a season like this, the chance has to come and he has to take it.

At the same time, goalkeeper Petr Kváča or power forward Adam Musil are returning. You probably won’t weaken significantly, what do you think?
Yeah, one hundred percent. But the transfer period is not over yet, the season is still far away. I think there is more to come.

On the other hand – captain Michal Birner announced the end of his career at the age of 38…
That was the mentor, not me. (smiles) He will be greatly missed – both on the ice and in the cabin.

Have you noticed this year how the extra league keeps going up in terms of quality?
Clearly. If you consider the players here… Look at Pardubice, Sparta, Brno or Třinec. These are players at the NHL or KHL level. The league is improving a lot and I’m happy to be a part of it.

Have you had any vacations yet?
Not yet. We have it planned in July, we are going later because of the children.
