Bad weather accompanied the first fights for medals at the European Championships in Cheile Gradistei, Romania. The first two of the total eleven medal sets were shared by the juniors in the short track discipline. Czech competitors won three places in the top ten: 7th Kryštof Bažant, 9th Hana Viková and 10th Kateřina Beyerová. The victory was celebrated by Tereza Maruša Šerkezi from Slovenia and Sven Sommer from Switzerland.
In the afternoon, the Elite category took to the racing circuit together with U23, where Jitka Čábelická flashed the top ten. She was one minute and 9 seconds behind the new European champion Pauline Ferrand Prevot (FRA). Among the men, Simon Andreassen (DEN) won.
“A total of five positions in the top 10 belong to the Czech representatives, across categories in the short track! And that is one of the best results of the last few seasons,” informs the national team coach Viktor Zapletal. Fifth in the top ten is Adéla Holubová, who finished in 23rd place in the overall ranking, but among female riders under the age of 23, she is in 9th place.
