After half a year, Czech hockey player Filip Chytil joined the NHL and rejoiced at the New York Rangers’ 3:2 overtime win on Carolina ice.

The best team in the regular season already leads the series 3-0 and is one win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference finals.

Chytil only played in ten games in the regular season before getting injured. He played his last game at the beginning of November, in which he probably suffered a concussion.

He started training with the team at the end of January, but the problems returned and he was even helped by his teammates off the ice.

At the time, the club issued a statement that Chytil’s health was a priority and that they would support him as much as possible to recover and be able to play in the 2024/25 season.

Chytil nevertheless joined the team’s training at the end of the regular season of the NHL. The Czech forward had no restrictions from the doctors, but Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said that they will not rush his return.

Since April 12, he only trained and traveled with the team to matches. He jumped into the game only now, about a month later, in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference.

He started on the left wing of the third attack, played twelve minutes and flashed a great breakthrough in the third period. He got all the way in front of the goalkeeper, but he was not successful in the finish and did not even make it through the continuation of the action.

“It’s great to have him back on the ice. The fact that he’s back, that he can bring positive energy to the team is great,” nhl.com quoted his partner in attack Chris Kreider.

“I think that as the match developed, he got better and better. You wouldn’t say at all that he didn’t play for that long, those five, six months,” praised Chytila and Rangers coach Peter Laviolette.

Jake Guentzel’s layup gave Carolina the lead in the 11th minute, but about halfway through the game, Chris Kreider tied it on a quick counterattack on a layup.

After another counterattack, Alexis Lafreniere turned the score around. The home team forced overtime with Andrej Svečnikov’s goal at risk without a goalkeeper.

Artěmij Panarin finished it in time 61:42 with a run in the area in front of the goal. The hero of the match was Rangers goalkeeper Igor Šestorkin, who saved 45 shots.

The Rangers are on an amazing streak, they haven’t lost yet in this year’s playoffs. They shut out Washington 4-0 in the opening round.

Dallas beat Colorado 5-3 to even the series at 1-1. The Stars squandered a 3-0 lead in the opener and lost 3-4 in overtime.

The best team of the Western Conference started the second match well and led 4-0 after two periods. Miro Heiskanen scored twice on power plays, Tyler Seguin scored on a power play, and Roope Hintz scored the remaining goal.

But Colorado dramatized the match. Between the 45th and 57th minutes, Joel Kiviranta, Brandon Duhaime and Valerij Ničuškin scored in succession, and the scenario from the first duel was almost repeated.

Only Esa Lindell calmed down the home team with a goal to make it 5:3 at the risk of Avalanche without a goalkeeper.
