OneDrive is getting a handy update. But the competition has been doing it for years – SMARTmania.cz

  • Microsoft has added a new feature to its OneDrive cloud storage
  • This will allow users to work with files also in offline mode
  • The competition has been offering a similar function for several years

Cloud storages are an absolutely common part of the Internet these days and practically every user uses them to a greater or lesser extent. Microsoft is no exception, offering its customers OneDrive storage, which is connected to its ecosystem and provides users with 15 GB of free space. However, a successful cloud is not only made by capacity, but also by the functions it has, while each provider approaches its solution a little differently. Microsoft has now updated OneDrive and added an offline feature that rival Google Drive has had for several years.

OneDrive gets the ability to work with files in offline mode

OneDrive on the web is getting an offline mode, Microsoft announced. This mode allows you to use OneDrive in your favorite browser even when you are not connected to the Internet. Offline mode is rolling out globally to all OneDrive users.

As expected, files and folders must first be marked as available for offline access. You can then access these files even if you don’t have an internet connection. You can also free up local storage space by making your local files and folders available online directly from OneDrive for the web. Both actions were previously available through File Explorer on a Windows PC and Finder on a Max PC, but now you can do them directly from the OneDrive app in your browser.

Don’t overlook

Google cloud users in trouble. Some people lose their saved data

Microsoft says OneDrive offline mode lets you open and work with the Home, My Files, Shared, Favorites, People, and Meetings views. You can view your folders, file names, and metadata. You can also rename, sort, move and copy files in the My Files view, although changes will sync to OneDrive as expected when you’re back online. Google Drive has had a similar feature for several years. You can choose to make the file offline and access it in the future without an internet connection, and it’s nice to see Microsoft catching up with the competition in this regard.
