When Natasha and I met and got together, I knew she was ambitious and wanted to work. I was told right from the start that if we ever had children, I would be at home with them, that she would not give up her career. And I took it.

We got married after a year. I was completely off her from the start and I wasn’t about to waste my time leaving her for someone else. I spent my entire paycheck on the ring, got down on one knee, Natasha said yes, and at that moment I knew we’d figure everything out. We had a beautiful wedding and planned for the future.

After some time, Natasha became pregnant, which we were both happy about, but after the birth of her son, it was clear that she would not really be at home and would not be an exemplary mother or a devoted wife. I was honestly disappointed, I was kind of hoping that she would change after marriage and having a baby, but on the other hand, I respected her.

Things went well for a few years, but then Nataša came home from work and told me that she had received an offer to head the company’s sales department in Finland and if I would be interested in moving there. At first I was excited, I liked the idea of living in Finland, but on the other hand I was afraid and had doubts.

After a few days I came to the decision that moving to Finland with a small child would not be a good idea. “Honey, we probably won’t. I know you would love to, but we have a small child and we have support here, I can also work. What will I do in Finland?’ I pitched. Nataša smiled that she understood, but then it slipped out that if we didn’t all move out, she would like to take the job and commute between Finland and the Czech Republic.

I didn’t want to get in her way so I nodded. I thought we could do it. We were making enough money together to be able to fly here and there and maybe one day the moment will come when we can move.

The situation is becoming unbearable

Nataša accepted the job. In a few months, she was transferred to Helsinki, where she currently spends three weeks of the month and one week in the Czech Republic. At first we managed it, we called each other and it seemed that everything would be fine, but over time Nataša had more and more work and couldn’t keep up with our calls, which was a huge stress for the whole family.

I decided to fly to see her more often, at least once every two months, so that we could see each other and spend time together. But of course that started to affect my career. I have to take unpaid leave because I used up my leave in half a year due to my son’s illnesses. And I’m alone with the little one, which doesn’t help me, it’s incredibly difficult.

I honestly don’t know how things will go with us. I’m incredibly tired and Nataša doesn’t seem like she wants to change jobs or move back to the Czech Republic. I probably won’t have a choice and will have to go where Nataša wants to live.
