Špindlerův Mlýn (Trutnovsko) – The ski season ended today in the Giant Mountains. Last time skiing took place in the area in Špindlerův Mlýn. Around 3,000 people came there on Easter. Vendula Kalenská, spokeswoman for the Špindlerův campus, told ČTK.

“The highest number of visitors was on Friday and Saturday. The weather was very spring-like, in Špindlerův Mlýn the temperature was around 15 degrees, the sun was shining, although the sand from the Sahara spoiled the weather there a little,” said Kalenská.

The ski center was open in Horní Mísečky and Medvědín. There was around 30 centimeters of snow on Medvědín, less on Mísečky.

“Thanks to the fact that we are in higher positions, we, as one of the few areas, managed to keep the season going until Easter. We benefited from the altitude, the snowmen and snowmobilers did a great job, who managed to keep the traffic on the slopes running as much as possible.” said Kalenska.

According to the spokesperson, attendance for the entire season is weaker than the operator had planned. About 20,000 skiers were missing compared to other flights. “It was especially the month of February that did it. In December and January, the weather and attendance were very good. It started raining in the first round of spring holidays in February, and attendance dropped a lot,” said the spokeswoman.

SkiResort Černá hora – Pec in the Eastern Giant Mountains was open until Sunday. Thousands of people came for Easter. They took advantage of the beautiful weather for spring trips, visiting attractions such as the bobsleigh track in Pec or the Krkonoše Treetop Trail, and many of them also went on a last ski trip, said resort spokesperson Zina Plchová.

The resort ended the ski season on Sunday on Černá hora, where it also began. The shortened slope Anděl was open for skiers, as well as the children’s slope Sporty. In Pec pod Sněžkou, the Hnědý vrch slope was closed on Saturday. On Sunday, only the chairlift was in operation for pedestrians.

“Hundreds of people did not miss the last skiing at the SkiResort during Easter. Today the Černohorský Express pedestrian cable car was in operation. It will run again on the weekends of April 6 and 7 and also on April 13 and 14 from 09:00 until 5:00 p.m. After that, it will undergo a regular shutdown. It will return to operation from May,” said the spokeswoman.

In the Krkonoše Mountains, the first avalanche level on a five-point scale applies. There are 60 to 90 centimeters of snow on the ridges. There is more snow in gullies, breakaway zones and on north and shady slopes. The southern slopes are almost snow-free. Temperatures hover above zero degrees Celsius on the ridges during the day and at night. The snow cover is wet to waterlogged.
