The tram collided with a pedestrian around 8:30 a.m. in the area of the Svratecká stop. “We received information that a young man is wedged under a tram. Unfortunately, he died before our arrival, so we could no longer help him,” said the spokesperson for the rescuers, Michaela Bothová.
Firefighters were also on the scene. “It was not necessary to extricate the body using special tools,” noted their spokesman Jaroslav Mikoška.
The tram line was impassable after the tragedy, lines 1 and 3 were terminated at the Vozovna Komín stop. From here to Bystrka, the transport company deployed replacement buses at an interval of about five minutes. Bus lines 50, 52 and 54 were extended in the direction from the Zoological Garden to the Vozovna Komín stop.
Due to the fact that the tracks run outside the road at the site of the accident, there were no further traffic problems. “We are investigating the cause of the accident,” said police spokesman Bohumil Malášek.
