A tragic accident happened on Wednesday morning on the I/50 road near the village of Strílky in the Kroměříž region. A head-on collision between two passenger vehicles claimed one life and injured four.
The accident happened roughly in the middle of the route on the main stretch of the I/50 between Uherské Hradiště and Brno near Střílek in the Kroměříž district. Two passenger cars collided there. A fully occupied Škoda Octavia and Škoda Karoq, in which only the driver was driving.
“The accident is very serious, it claimed one human life and four were injured,” the Police of the Czech Republic informed shortly after the accident.
Police patrols diverted traffic through local roads until the afternoon, at this point the road is now passable again. An investigation into the causes and documentation of the accident was underway. The police already have the first conclusions.
The driver drove into the opposite direction, the passenger died
“The 37-year-old driver of a Škoda Octavia driving from Uherské Hradiště drove in the opposite direction for reasons that have not yet been determined, where she then collided head-on with an oncoming Škoda Karoq,” said police spokesman Radomír Šiška.
Unfortunately, the consequences were tragic. Her passenger succumbed to her injuries on the spot. The Octavia driver herself and two other passengers suffered serious injuries. And unfortunately, the driver of the karoq was also injured.
Police are looking for witnesses to the accident
Kroměříž crime investigators together with traffic police continue to investigate the accident.
“In connection with this traffic accident, we are looking for witnesses to this event. We would also welcome dashcam footage showing the black Octavia driving in the opposite direction. Witnesses can contact us on line 158 or on the traffic police phone number 735 780 170,” Radomír Šiška added.
