For the third time in a row, the youngest Czech hockey players will play for gold at the spring European tournament. And for the third time it will be against Hungary! Thanks to a draw with Germany, they won their basic group in Bratislava.

The Slovaks organize the European Girls Trophy in cooperation with the International Ice Hockey Federation. It is all the more remarkable what kind of “backstage” they invented.

It is played for draws.

It’s as if the organizers had a time machine and returned hockey twenty years back, or if you want to, for example, to the student categories… No, this is not really seen at decent international tournaments under the patronage of the IIHF.

But as Czechs, we cannot complain. It was the draw without further extra time or raids that decided Czech joy and German sadness, our girls’ hopes under fifteen will once again fight for gold medals!

After two smooth wins against older opponents, this time they played an incomparably more difficult duel, in which the Germans were more active with shots in each third. Three times they took the lead – but three times they were answered.

It was clear about the award for the best Czech player of the match. However, the result was much more important: the German women, or rather their coaches in particular, could not believe for a long time that after the draw there really would not be a setup that would decide the owners of the bonus point and thus the winners of the group.

Only after long debates with the referees did the dejected team stand on the blue line.

The group was dominated by the Czech Republic thanks to a significantly better score from the first two matches. They can thus look forward to another repeat of the final against the Hungarians, who were dominant in the opposite group. The Germans will face the Austrians for bronze.

The battle for gold will take place in Bratislava on Friday from 12:20 p.m. We’d rather not think about whether, in the event of a tie, the champion won’t be determined by a coin toss…
