Not for nothing is it said that buying a new car is one of the worst investments ever. But some electric models bring this traditional regularity to even completely different, far higher dimensions. A shining example is the recent case of the Ocean car from the once again bankrupt American electric car company Fisker.

If a person does not treat himself to a unique limited edition of one of the models of companies such as Pagani, Koenigsegg or Bugatti, in the case of a second-hand car, he has a slim chance of selling the car for the same or only slightly lower price than he bought it. Veterans are a different category – the real ones tend to have more than three crosses around their necks.

A general rule of thumb is that as soon as a regular new car crosses the showroom floor, it loses 30% of its value. It’s not that bad today, but it’s a fact that a fifth of the price (ie 20%) is usually gone after the first year and 10% goes away with each subsequent year. And we are only talking about cars powered by gasoline or diesel.

A sad record

The editors of the American car advertising server Edmunds managed a masterpiece in this regard. When they were choosing a new electric car for their company fleet, the choice fell on an interesting SUV from the American brand Fisker, which at one time also tried its luck here.

They bought a brand new Fisker Ocean Extreme electric car at Edmunds for $69,000, i.e. over 1.6 million crowns. But when the editors wanted to sell the car with less than seven thousand kilometers after two months, no one wanted to buy it for more than 21 thousand dollars, which is less than half a million Czech crowns.
