A record number, more than 400 swimmers not only from the Czech Republic, took part in the Ostrava Swimming Grand Prix, which took place over three days at the indoor pool in Ostrava-Porubá.

Jan Pala, chairman of the Ostrava KPS: “For us and our swimmers, it is an opportunity to measure our strength with the top Czech, but also from abroad. There are 8 foreign clubs here. Among the interesting ones are, for example, swimmers from Sweden, Norway or Moldova, and a higher number of swimmers from Slovak clubs participated.”

The swimming club here had about 40 top swimmers who did great. On the very first day in the 50 m freestyle, 4 first places were taken. 5 records were also broken at the races.

Dalma Sebestyén, Györ, winner of 50 m butterfly, 100 m breaststroke: “It’s my first time in Ostrava and I fell in love with this pool. I even swam the 200 m butterfly record here.”

Ondřej Slavík, KPS Ostrava, winner of the 50 m butterfly: “I think there are great competitors here. The competition was solid, but it could be better. It’s swimming great, I’m at home, so I’m enjoying it here.”

Petra Závadová, KPS Ostrava, winner of the 400 m freestyle: “It’s great for every swimmer just to swim on their home soil. Therefore, it will also show in how you swim.”

The Ostrava Grand Prix is ​​included in the Czech Arena Cup program, which takes place at six locations throughout the year. Here, swimmers could also fulfill the limits for the Olympics and the European Championships for juniors and adults.
