A speeder hit a woman at a crossing in Olomouc. She died on the spot

The tragic accident happened on Tuesday morning at a railway crossing on the outskirts of Olomouc. A Moravan express train heading from Olomouc to Přerov hit a woman there in the railway yard.

The accident happened after 9 o’clock at a railway crossing with barriers near the area called Amerika in the Olomouc part of Holice.

“The person succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The exact causes and circumstances of the traffic accident are the subject of further investigation,” said police spokeswoman Ivana Skoupilová.

According to the spokeswoman for the rescue service, Lucie Mikisková, a middle-aged woman suffered life-threatening injuries. The rescue crew could no longer help her.

Firefighters evacuated passengers from the Moravan express train. České dráhy introduced replacement bus service between Olomouc and Grygov, replacing passenger trains and Slovak and Valašské Expresses. Buses depart from Táborská street in Olomouc, where passengers can reach from the main station via the underpass in the direction of Holica.

Trains of the private carriers RegioJet and Leo Express were waiting for the resumption of service at the railway stations in Olomouc, Grygov and Brodek near Přerov.

Traffic was restored after half past twelve. However, long-distance trains were delayed by more than an hour.
