Defenseman Victor Hedman will strengthen Sweden at the World Cup after being eliminated from the NHL playoffs with Tampa Bay. He confirmed this in an interview with overseas journalists.

The 33-year-old Hedman didn’t have many opportunities to play for Sweden in the past: he regularly fought with the Lightning in the playoffs and twice won the Stanley Cup with them.

But as soon as he could, he never hesitated over an invitation from the national team. And he confirmed his exceptional relationship with the national team this year too – after Tampa Bay fell short of Florida in the first round. Hedman quickly confirmed to coach Sam Hallam that he will arrive in Ostrava. He will participate in the World Championship for the fourth time in his career: he has bronze from 2010 and won gold with Sweden in the spring of 2017.

And this year? This year in the Czech Republic, Tre kronor, who have been waiting for a medal for six years, will once again have the highest ambitions, as they will deploy the best defense in the tournament: in addition to Hedman and the aforementioned Rasmus Dahlin and Erik Karlsson, Marcus Pettersson from Pittsburgh and Jonas Brodin from Minnesota will also arrive .

Of all of them, Hedman has had the best season in the NHL: in 78 games of the regular season, he scored an astonishing 76 points (13+63) and scored seven times in five playoff duels.
