The Italian mini with a rather questionable exterior will not only irritate some with its appearance, but also with its price tag. It is 180,000 crowns more expensive than before and starts higher than the Škoda Octavia, even though it competes with the Fabia. And the electric version is even more expensive.

About a decade ago, Lancia seemed dead. The Italian car company withdrew from all markets except the domestic one, where it was supposed to live. However, a miracle happened, because with a single Ypsilon model, this brand outsold even Alfa Romeo, whose portfolio is wider and which can also be purchased on several continents. The parent concern Stellantis therefore decided to give Lancia another chance. Ypsilon has recently arrived in a new generation that will be available in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Austria and Spain.

The Czech Republic is still missing from the announced destinations, while we are not so sure yet whether Lancia will officially return to us. This car manufacturer, like all brands under Stellantis, mentions electrification with great enthusiasm. It wants to offer a purely battery drive as early as 2026, which is a really big deal. Moreover, it is a highly uncertain bet that may not pay off. On that date, the European Union can reassess its intentions.

The Italians are probably aware of this, which is why they presented the Ypsilon in both electric and combustion versions. At the same time, we don’t want to believe too much that they would invest a lot of money in the second-mentioned one just so that they would soon exterminate him from the world. Especially when during the next three years there is no chance that the new generation would at least equal the registration of its predecessor, even if it was available in only one country. However, it started at 17,650 Euros (approx. 443,000 CZK), while the novelty will not go below 24,900 Euros (approx. 625,000 CZK).

At the same time, for the given money, you get that mild-hybrid, which packs a supercharged one-two paired with a 48-volt battery and a small electric motor integrated into a six-speed automatic. At the same time, the device produces 100 horses, with which you can handle 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds, while the top speed is 190 km/h. The electric variant then received 156 horsepower and a package with a capacity of 51 kWh, which is associated with a stated range of 403 km. But also the price of 34,900 Euros (approx. 876 thousand CZK).

If these amounts do not seem so crazy to you, we should put them in the proper context. Indeed, the Ypsilon is competition for, for example, a Škoda Fabia, which starts at CZK 369,900. At that moment, however, only 80 atmospheric horses can be counted on. However, even the turbocharged version of the engine tuned to 116 hp is a pittance compared to the Italian, it can be purchased from CZK 459,900. The competition for it was the previous Ypsilon, which is why the new one would definitely be a bargain in the Czech Republic.

However, it should be added that the Italian novelty compensates the higher price at least a little with the equipment, because it is already possible to count on a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and an equally large multimedia screen. On the outside, we have, for example, the gold color Vernice Oro, which contrasts with the black covers of the 16-inch steel wheels. Cast rims are then available for an additional fee of 750 Euros (about 8,900 CZK), and they are calculated on a 17-inch size. Navigation is also based on the same money.

The Ypsilon with a mild-hybrid system starts at 24,900 Euros (625,150 CZK) in its homeland, but the illustrated version already includes the second level of LX equipment, supplemented by additional 17-inch wheels. The price at that moment already increases to 27,400 Euros (approx. 688,000 CZK). Photo: Lancia
