Paramedics in Opava region resuscitated a driver suffering from a heart attack

The crews of the medical rescue service, together with other components of the IZS, intervened on the afternoon of Saturday, May 4, at a car accident in the Opava region.

“To intervene near the village of Otice, two ground teams from Opava and Ostrava air rescuers were sent a quarter to one. According to the information available to the rescuers, the vehicle went off the road at low speed into a ditch. The 45-year-old man showed no signs of external injuries, but was in unconscious and he had a circulatory failure,” said Lukáš Humpl, spokesman for the Moravian-Silesian rescuers.

Witnesses to the events began basic resuscitation, which was continued by EMS crews with the help of equipment and drugs. During external heart massage and after performing a defibrillation shock, they managed to restore the heart’s activity.

“The paramedics had to provide artificial pulmonary ventilation and other actions as part of pre-hospital emergency care. The examination showed signs of an acute heart attack, which caused the man to become unconscious and the subsequent accident. The patient was successfully transferred to Ostrava University Hospital for further treatment,” added the spokesperson.
