The police accused the truck driver of being responsible for Saturday’s tragic accident on the D1 highway. The man faces up to six years in prison if convicted. In the direction of Poland, several vehicles collided yesterday, including a tractor that was transporting a tank. One person did not survive.
“Criminal officers from Karvina have charged a 54-year-old truck driver with the crimes of negligent homicide and negligent grievous bodily harm. If convicted, he can be sentenced to up to six years in prison,” the police said on the X social network on Sunday.
The police informed about the tragic event shortly before 10 o’clock on Saturday. The accident happened at the 376th kilometer in the direction of Poland, the D1 highway had to be closed at the scene of the incident. It was only possible to make it passable again in the evening.
“According to preliminary information, the driver of the tractor transporting the tank should have stopped in the right lane, a passenger vehicle stopped behind him and a truck carrying cars crashed into it. Unfortunately, the accident claimed one life. Two other people were injured,” the police said on the X network.
The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) recorded 10,406 traffic accidents in the Moravian-Silesian Region last year. There were almost two hundred more than in the previous year.
