“The guillotine! Guillotine!”. University of Washington ‘People’s Court’ calls for death of school administration. The police intervened

Radical protesters, who have been camping on the grounds of George Washington University for 14 days, have demanded the execution of the university’s leadership. They shouted several times “Guillotine!” or the death of the vice chancellor for African-American students. They also organized a “People’s Court” on the premises of the university with the university management. The video of this “trial”, which took place on May 3, has now appeared on social networks. The police did not take action against the protesters until Wednesday morning. On Wednesday, a hearing will take place near the university before a committee of the House of Representatives due to the violence that has been going on at the university for 14 days. They inform, for example, Fox News.

The police intervention took place at the request of the university management at approximately 4:30 in the morning, when hundreds of police intervened against the protesters, demonstrating for a free Palestine and chanting slogans about the genocide in Gaza, and arrested 35 demonstrators. According to some media, the university has already asked the Washington police to intervene in the past few days. She finally did so only when some of the protesters went to the residence of Chancellor Ellen Granberg, whom the students criticized for her unwillingness to negotiate on their demands, on Tuesday evening. Granberg claims that university officials have been in dialogue with the students. Their demands, regarding, for example, being cut off from Israeli universities and companies with which the university cooperates, are rejected.

Footage of the protests and the activities of the protesters in the past few days is starting to appear on social networks. There is also footage of an alleged “people’s court” calling for the death of Chancellor Ellen Granberg, Associate Dean for African American Student Affairs Christopher Bracey and the university’s board of trustees. The students chant “Guillotine!, guillotine!” several times in the video. “Bracey, Bracey, we see you. You’re attacking students too. To the gallows with you!” shouted a veiled woman with a megaphone.

A mob of radicals covered the statue of the first American president, George Washington. He covered his head with a scarf, plastered slogans for a free Palestine on the statue and wrapped it in Palestinian flags. Even the current US President Joe Biden did not escape the anger of the protesters. His image, together with the slogan “Genocide Joe”, was projected by students onto the building of the university’s law faculty.

The university campus is located near the White House and the seat of the US Congress, and the protest attracted the interest of top politicians. The media note that the police operation came at the beginning of a day when there is a hearing in the House of Representatives with Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser and local police chief Pamela Smith. They had previously faced criticism from some lawmakers for their decision not to send police to the protesters.
