“Two colonels of the State Guard were accused of high treason and aiding a terrorist attack,” Ukrainian Pravda reported. Counterintelligence and investigators of the Ukrainian secret service SBU were supposed to interrupt the plans for the protection of the constitutional officials. The assassination was supposed to be organized by a network of agents and two members of the security guard were supposed to leak classified information to the Russian Federation. Ukrainian server Livy Bereh informs that both detainees face life imprisonment. According to available information, security guards were supposed to find people around the Ukrainian president who would take him hostage and later kill him.
In addition to the plan to kill Zelensky, Russian agents also intended to eliminate the head of the secret service Vasyl Malyuk, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence Kyryl Budanov and other high officials of the country.
The head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, says that only a limited number of people knew about this special operation to detect enemy agents, and he personally supervised its progress. According to him, the terrorist attack was supposed to be “a gift to Putin before the inauguration”.
The whole scenario involved tracking the movements of high officials, followed by a rocket attack on the house where Zelensky was supposed to be, and later a drone attack on this house.
During the house searches, documents were also found that clearly link the members of the security guard to the planning of the assassination. Some of the weapons that were to be used were even personally brought to Ukraine by one of the security guards. Among them were drones, ammunition for the RPG-7 anti-tank grenade launcher and even anti-personnel mines.
