Assassination

A few days ago, the Ukrainian civilian counterintelligence (SBU) announced on its official website that it had uncovered a group of agents of the Russian Secret Service (FSB) who allegedly planned to kill Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other important Ukrainian officials. According to information from the head of the SBU, Vasyl Maljuk, it was an action by the Russian secret services on the occasion of the inauguration of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The killing of Zelensky, according to foreign websites, was supposed to be a kind of “gift for Putin before his inauguration”.

A few days ago, the Ukrainian Civil Intelligence (SBU) revealed the planning of the assassination of President Volodymyr Zelensky. Two State Guard colonels were subsequently found guilty of treason and aiding and abetting a terrorist attack. The SBU wrote on its official website that it had uncovered a network of agents connected to Russia.

The colonels were supposed to deliver classified information to Russia and their goal was to find people around the Ukrainian president who would kidnap and then kill Zelensky. In addition to Zelensky, agents are said to have planned to kill SBU director Vasyl Maljuk, head of military intelligence (HUR) Kyryl Budanov and other officials. It is said that they were going to kill the Budanovs before Easter, which Orthodox Christians celebrated last Sunday.

A gift for Putin

The website Ukrainska pravda came up with the information that the killing of Zelensky was supposed to be a kind of “gift to Russian President Vladimir Putin before his inauguration”. “A terrorist act that was supposed to be a gift for Putin’s inauguration was actually a failure of Russian intelligence services,” stated according to the already mentioned website head of SBU Vasyl Maljuk. At the same time, he warned that “the enemy is strong and experienced and cannot be underestimated.”

The detained men will be investigated on the basis of the section on treason and preparation of a terrorist act. They face life imprisonment.
