Robert Hossein was born in 1927. Although he was a citizen of France, his father came from Azerbaijan and was a music composer. The mother was born in Bessarabia, which no longer exists today and its territory is divided between Moldova and Ukraine.

By far the most famous film role he ever played was that of Count Joffrey de Peyrac in the five-film series about the beautiful Angelica. During his life, Hossein met four fateful girls, but his relationships were not always met with understanding. The actor loved very young girls.

He found his first great love in 1955. She was Marina Vlady. He was 28 years old at the time and she was only 17. Soon they started living together. This was followed by marriage and the birth of two sons, although the second was born after the divorce. Their relationship could not withstand Hossein’s constant need to have Marina close. He first made her his secretary, then his cook and personal driver. But they parted amicably and remained friends for the rest of their lives.

When Hossein was 35 years old, he met another fateful woman, Carolinne Eliacheff. But it was a big scandal. Not only was the actor’s chosen one the daughter of a French minister, she was also extremely young. She was 14 when they started dating. Everything was against them, but they were determined not to give up on their love.

The wedding took place a year later, when Carolinne was only 15 years old. To avoid an even bigger scandal, Hossein’s new wife promised to continue her studies. Years later, she became a famous psychoanalyst. But she hadn’t been with Hossein for a long time. Their marriage lasted only two years.

When the actor was divorced for the second time, he started looking for his colleague Michèle Mercier while filming Angelika. But she resisted his seductions. His third partner eventually became the actress Michele Watrin, who was already of legal age at the time. But she soon died as a result of a tragic traffic accident when she was 24 years old.

It was only after the death of his third partner that Hossein found the woman with whom he spent the rest of his life. She was 20 years younger actress Candice Patou, they married in Reims in 1976. They spent 44 years together.

The end came in 2020, when the actor contracted the coronavirus while hospitalized. As a result, he died the day after his 93rd birthday. For the French, however, he remained a legend who is still adored to this day mainly because of his role as Jofrey de Peyrac in the romantic films about Angelica, but also thanks to other film roles that indelibly wrote themselves into the history of French cinema.
