The tragic death of the former mayor and father of four, who was hit by a truck while riding a scooter on Tuesday, affected the residents of the village of Kvetoslavov. The Slovak police informed about the case on the social network. The driver of a small motorcycle driving on the main road was to be fatally inattentive to the driver of the truck, who apparently did not give him the right of way at the intersection. The police accuse the truck driver of manslaughter, a breath test ruled out alcohol. According to the news website Noviny.sk, the mayor of the village Soňa Franková also pointed out the lack of clarity at the intersection.
The accident at a busy intersection without traffic lights happened on Tuesday morning. According to the investigators, the motorcyclist tried to tilt his scooter at the last moment to prevent the collision, but the maneuver did not work. “The operation center of the emergency medical service sent an ambulance to the traffic accident. “Unfortunately, the man suffered injuries incompatible with life and the doctor could only declare death,” said the spokeswoman of the operation center, Petra Klimešová. According to the police, the fatal collision of a truck with a 45-year-old ex-mayor on a motorcycle also had a heavy impact on the truck driver. After the accident, a post-traumatic team went to the scene. “The investigation of the tragic accident was taken over by the locally competent investigator, who initiated criminal prosecution for the offense of manslaughter,” added Zlatica Antolová, spokeswoman for the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Trnava. The police are now asking for help and looking for any witnesses to the accident who could contribute to clarifying the situation.
Dangerous intersection
The mayor of the nearby village of Štvrtok na Ostrove, Péter Őry, also expressed his grief over the death of the father of four on the social network: “Our former colleague and mayor died suddenly and tragically. Rest in peace, Otto. My sincere condolences to the whole family, I have no words at the moment.” He was quoted by the website Zoznam.sk.
In addition, the current mayor of the village of Kvetoslavov, Soňa Franková, drew attention to the danger of the intersection where the fatal accident took place. According to her, this is a very frequent crossing, especially in the morning hours, and collisions occur here almost every day.
According to her, the village has literally become a funnel for cars and trucks from the wider area, which pass by the exit from the R7 road. “The incriminated intersection of Hlavá – Senecká – Agátová streets, which is congested during rush hours, is particularly critical. The situation is getting worse and I am very sorry for Tuesday’s tragic accident,” the mayor added, adding that she had repeatedly tried to draw the attention of the authorities of the Trnava region to the lack of transparency of the road, but so far in vain. According to her, solutions discussed included a roundabout or traffic lights.
