Prague – The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) will today publish data on tourism and services for the first quarter. In the final quarter of last year, 4.7 million tourists stayed in the Czech Republic, an increase of 8.5 percent year-on-year. For the whole of last year, the number of accommodated tourists increased by 13.5 percent to 22 million. It also beat 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic, albeit slightly by 0.2 percent. On the contrary, service providers had three percent lower sales year-on-year in the last quarter. They recorded the same decline for the entire year 2023. The decline followed two years of year-on-year growth, namely by 7.5 percent in 2021 and by 8.5 percent the year before.

In the final quarter of last year, about 15,000 fewer people stayed in the Czech Republic than in the comparable period of 2019. Guests spent 10.9 million nights in mass accommodation facilities, which was an increase of 6.6 percent compared to 2022. The arrivals of foreign guests increased by 16.7 percent and the number of domestic tourists increased by more than one percent. Of the 22 million tourists last year, approximately 12.5 million were domestic, and approximately 9.6 million foreign guests stayed. Last year, the number of tourists from 2019, according to CZSO data, was exceeded by all regions except Prague, South Bohemia and Ústí Region.

In the case of services, sales in the last quarter of last year fell the most year-on-year in transport and storage, by 9.5 percent. Information and communication activities decreased by 2.6 percent, real estate activities by two percent, and administrative and support activities by 2.8 percent. The accommodation, catering and hospitality sector took the most, by 1.6 percent. In professional, scientific and technical activities, sales increased by 3.5 percent. Revenues in services had a similar development for the entire year 2023, the CZSO informed earlier.
