Radio station RMF FM reported that the twenty-one-year-old was in civilian clothes and unarmed. Polish border guards found Russian military documents with him, including a contract with the army regarding his part in the invasion of Ukraine.

In order to get to Poland, he used a common migrant route, followed by refugees from crisis areas in Africa and the Middle East. For a long time, Poland has accused the regime of Belarusian authoritarian leader Alexander Lukaenko of using these people in a tense situation as weapons in a hybrid war against the West.

Katarzyna Zdanowiczov, who speaks Polish in the border area of the Podlaskie Voivodeship where the Russian was detained, confirmed according to TVN24 that this happened in the last few days and that he had valid military documents with him.

The RMF FM station reported that the ABW counter-intelligence was involved in the attack and that it is important for the Polish authorities to find out why he went to Poland.

You have to find out if he wanted to continue his journey to one of the other European countries, if he should be treated as a migrant or if he should not go for a pioneer who has some bikes in Poland.

The Russian ambassador in Varav, Sergej Andreyev, said on Thursday that he had sent a letter to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but confirmed the information about the captured soldier.
