The Norwegians made the most of the minimum and responded in the 15th minute. Forty-year-old Patrick Thoresen found Markus Vikingstad from the back post at the left circle, who beat Leonardo Genoni. In the 52nd minute, Niederreiter added the fifth goal of the Swiss with a backhand stop in the power play when Noah Steen was sent off. The puck bounced to him from record holder Andres Ambühl, who improved to 62 points for 28 goals and 34 assists in his 19th appearance at the World Cup in his 132nd game.

Eighteen-year-old talent Michael Brandsegg-Nygard corrected the result 64 seconds before the end at Phillip Kurashev’s penalty, finishing the combination of Zuccarello and Thoresen in his first match at the world championship.

16,617 spectators watched the match in the O2 arena. The Norwegians will be the second opponent of the Czech national team in Group A on Saturday from 8:20 p.m.
