“Iran’s nuclear program is not a threat only to Israel. They apparently have all the technology to acquire it, and it is more of a political decision. If they produce a nuclear weapon, we can expect a domino effect,” warns analyst Irena Kalhousová. According to her, the current escalation between Iran and Israel is only “one round”. According to her, the latter can bring much more serious consequences not only in the region.

“In this round, it’s apparently already closed. Israel will not want to respond with further attacks on Iranian territory. But the conflict has reached other dimensions, and in the next round it may be much more serious than we have seen in the last ten years,” says the director of the Herzl Center for Israeli of studies at the UK, Irena Kalhousová, about Iran’s attack on Israel and the subsequent reaction.

Although the war in Ukraine is geographically closer to Europe, the Middle East is an important source of oil for Europe and, according to the expert, a potential escalation in the region would have clear effects on the stability of the continent.

In addition, Kalhousová warns that there is one more thing that could make the world nervous – the nuclear program in Iran. “If Iran has a nuclear weapon, Saudi Arabia, probably Turkey or Egypt, will want to acquire it. The Middle East, as we can see, is not stable, there are coups and non-state actors often threaten the regimes there. If we were to add nuclear weapons to the mix, it will threaten the security of the entire world,” warns the expert.

According to Kalhousová, the escalation between Israel and Iran that has taken place in recent weeks is nothing surprising. According to her, by attacking Israel, Iran tried to “strengthen its image” in relation to other Arab countries, which are not so critical of Israel. “For decades, Israel actually considered itself a country surrounded by enemies and was looking for allies among non-Arab countries. But the situation has changed, today Israel’s allies are Sunni Arab countries in the immediate vicinity. This could give Israel a certain sense of security,” he believes. analyst.
