Next to the protests at American universities, a big turn for Biden. Did he talk?

--

The November presidential election in the US is getting closer and closer. And as before the vast majority of presidential elections, it is expected that there will be a war of words between the two candidates – the Republican ex-president Donald Trump and the current president Joe Biden. USA Today server he recalled that Trump had long mocked Biden for avoiding him.

Indeed, Biden refused Trump’s invitations to verbal duels.

“If I were him, I’d want to have a discussion with me too. He has nothing else to do,” Biden told reporters back in February.

But now the situation seems to be changing. A quarter of a year later, Biden admitted that he would allow himself to be drawn into a direct battle of words with Trump.

“Someday, I don’t know when, but I’d love to debate him,” Biden said in an interview with radio talk show host Howard Stern when asked if he was going to debate Trump.

Two presidential candidate debates and one vice-presidential debate are planned.

The first presidential debate is scheduled for September 16 at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. However, Trump’s campaign team wants more debates and to start earlier. “The time to start these debates is now,” Trump’s people demanded.

In a joint statement on April 14, twelve news organizations, including USA Today, called on presumptive party nominees Biden and Trump to publicly commit to general debates before the election.

Meanwhile, Biden continues to grapple with how to deal with pro-Palestinian protests on American campuses.

“President Biden and top Democratic lawmakers in Washington this week distanced themselves from the pro-Palestinian protests that have gripped many college campuses as Republicans work overtime to link Democrats to the chaotic scenes unfolding across the country ahead of the 2024 election.” wrote the server of the American newspaper Washington Post.

“Democratic rebukes aimed at the young protesters ranged from vague warnings of violence, to strongly worded calls for a crackdown on student violators, to accusations of anti-Semitism,” the paper continued.

In addition, the British public BBC warns that another round of protests may soon start on the campuses of American universities. Four universities rocked by pro-Palestinian protests will hold graduation ceremonies this weekend. Many others, including Columbia University, have ceremonies planned throughout the month and then in June.

According to the BBC, universities are working to increase security as protesters consider walkouts and other possible actions. Protesters set up camps and held demonstrations to call on their universities to cut ties with Israel over the war in Gaza. More than one college responded to these protests by calling the police, which led to a wave of arrests of a number of people.

BBC statistics suggestthat since the protests began in Columbia last month, there have been demonstrations at nearly 140 institutions in 45 states and Washington, DC.
